V-22 Osprey has a sweet new gun

DefenseTech.org has a nice little article explaining how the new defensive gun on the V-22 Osprey works.  The operator inside the aircraft sees through the sights using a TV monitor, puts the crosshairs on the target and fires.  A computer system figures out where to actually point the gun to account for movement of the aircraft so the rounds land in the right place.

Marines get a new workout program

I didn’t know this was possibly, but apparently the Marines are getting a little too fat and lazy, so they changing to a new, tougher physical fitness test.  It sounds like quite a workout.  Maybe this should be an event for Survivor: Benchley 2009.  If you complete it in time, you get a trophy and celebratory deployment to Iraq.

Beautiful Swiss flying

Courtesy of DefenseTech.org, check out this video of the Swiss air force (the Swiss have an air force?!) showing off their flying.  They definitely have some beautiful scenery to fly through.

FCS Active Protection System

Check out this test video footage of the Army’s Active Protection System, which is part of Future Combat Systems.  I don’t have a whole lot of information on it other than that it is designed to intercept and defeat incoming rounds (like RPGs).  Saying it is amazingly fast doesn’t begin to describe the insane reaction speed this thing has.

Well, that’s one way to do it…

…but I wouldn’t recommend it:
