Unfortunately, the recording software crashed halfway through the sermon, so the last half of the talk is not available. The notes below are complete, though.
The Holy Spirit
By Jesse Jenkins
Benchley, April 6, 2008
Three classifications of intelligent, rational beings.
The Godhead or God family.
The Angelhood or Angel family.
The Manhood or Man family (Humanity).
The Father has the characteristics of an intelligent, rational being:
He loves. John 3:35
He has life. John 5:26
He has a will. John 5:30
He has knowledge. John 10:15
The Son has the characteristics of an intelligent, rational being:
He speaks. John 6:63
He teaches. John 14:26
He has compassion. Mark 8:2
He invites. Matthew 11:28-30
The Holy Spirit has the characteristics of an intelligent, rational being:
He speaks. I Timothy 4:1
He teaches. John 14:26; 16:13
He can be lied to. Acts 5:3
He can be resisted. Acts 7:51
All three are referred to as God.
Ephesians 4:6 – the Father
John 20:28 – the Son
Acts 5:3-4 – the Holy Spirit
All three work together in salvation:
The Father made the plan. John 3:16; Ephesians 3:10-11
The Son executed the plan. Luke 19:10; Ephesians 1:7; I Timothy 2:5-6
The Holy Spirit revealed the plan. John 14:26; 16:13; Luke 24:49; Acts 2:1-4
The Holy Spirit’s role in the time of the apostles:
John 14:26 – gave apostles an inerrant remembrance
John 16:13 – guided apostles into all truth
Luke 24:49; Acts 2:1-4; 8:18 – empowered them to work miracles to prove their message was from God
Summary
Jesus is the blood sacrifice by which sins can be forgiven. Ephesians 1:7
The gospel is the guide to salvation. Romans 1:16
Faith that obeys in love is the acceptance of the Father’s plan. Galatians 5:6
Have you taken advantage of the plan provided by the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?
