- Matthew 19:9
- Deuteronomy 24:1-4?- divorce is severing the marriage relationship, not the written certificate.
- If you separate as husband and wife, you are divorced even if you aren’t divorced from a civil law perspective.
- Genesis 2:24?- God’s marriage law
- Malachi 2:16?- God hates divorce!
- Matthew 5:27-28,31-32?- simply severing the marriage relationship causes adultery
- Matthew 19:3-9?- Verse 9 is about divorce, not remarriage.? It is not to be used as a pretext to find a way to leave your wife.
- I Corinthians 7:10-11
- II Samuel 11:26?- Bathsheba was no longer married to Uriah even though he is called her husband.? This is the same figure of speech used in II Corinthians 7:11.
- When married people separate, they are unmarried.
- Galatians 6:1; I John 2:1
- I Peter 2:11-19?- rules for submitting to government and masters.
- I Peter 3:1-2 – wives should submit to their husbands in the same way.
- I Corinthians 7:15?- What is my mate divorces me?
- Ezra 10 – rules for dealing with unscriptural marriage
