• Deuteronomy 24:1-4?- divorce is severing the marriage relationship, not the written certificate.
• If you separate as husband and wife, you are divorced even if you aren’t divorced from a civil law perspective.
• Genesis 2:24?- God’s marriage law
• Malachi 2:16?- God hates divorce!
• Matthew 5:27-28,31-32?- simply severing the marriage relationship causes adultery
• Matthew 19:3-9?- Verse 9 is about divorce, not remarriage.? It is not to be used as a pretext to find a way to leave your wife.
• I Corinthians 7:10-11
  • II Samuel 11:26?- Bathsheba was no longer married to Uriah even though he is called her husband.? This is the same figure of speech used in II Corinthians 7:11.
  • When married people separate, they are unmarried.

• What is wrong with gambling?
  • It is not one of the three accepted means of exchange.
    • Work? (Luke 10:7; Ephesians 4:28)
    • Sell, trade, swap? (Ezekiel 27:13,14,17)
    • Gift? (Acts 20:35; Luke 6:38)
  • Gambling is an effort to get something for nothing and at a loss to another.
  • It is covetousness.
    • It is a desire to get that which belongs to another without fair exchange.? Colossians 3:5
  • It is robbery by consent.
  • It destroys God’s plan for all to work.? Genesis 2:15; II Thessalonians 3:10; Ephesians 4:28
    • Work has a wholesome effect on the laborer and the community.
  • Gambling promotes laziness and social parasites that live off the labors of others.
  • It violates the command to love.? Matthew 22:38
    • It is not love to try to take one’s possessions for nothing.
  • It is a form of evil.? I Thessalonians 5:22
    • Gambling produces many other evils:? fraud, cheating, lying, perjury, theft, etc.
  • It has a tendency to enslave.
  • It is a bad influence.? Matthew 5:16
  • It corrupts.
    • Old and young
    • The honest worker
    • Judges
    • Business
    • Legislators
    • Even religious organizations
  • It is out of harmony with the golden rule.? Matthew 7:12
    • If followed, this would kill gambling.

  • Don’t have social company with drunkards.? I Corinthians 5:11
  • Don’t fulfill fleshly lusts.? Romans 13:13-14
  • Do not be deceived by strong drink.? Proverbs 20:1
  • Proverbs 23:29-35
  • I Peter 4:3-4
• What about?
  • John 2:1-10?- Jesus turns water to wine.
    • This was grape juice.? Jesus would not aid and abet drunkenness.
  • Romans 14:21?- indifference towards drinking.
    • In the context, this is not intoxicating wine.
  • I Timothy 5:23?- wine for medicinal purposes
• The strong drinks condemned in the Bible were weak compared to today’s standard.
• When is a person drunk?
  • After one drink, one is not 100% sober.
• Is social drinking that bad?
  • According to coroner reports, moderate drinkers are more dangerous than chronic drinkers.
  • About one out of nine social drinkers become alcoholics.
  • Brain cells are destroyed with each drink.
  • What influence are you having on others?
• Drinking stimulates accidents.
• Is alcoholism a disease?

  • Do not make it public.
  • Take care of it with God.? I John 1:9
• Sin against another
  • Known only by you and the other.
  • Do not make it public.
  • Take care of it with the other.? Matthew 5:23-24
• A brother has sinned against you
  • Go to him alone if he will hear.? Matthew 18:15-17
  • Take one or two witnesses and if he will not hear…
  • Take it to the church and if he will not hear…
  • Let him be unto you as a heathen and have no part with him.
• A sin that is known by many
  • If one chooses to go to the sinner and talk one on one, that is all right, but:
    • Matthew 18:15-17?does not apply in this case.
    • Matthew 7:12?does apply, if that is what you would like for another to do to you.
  • If is also right to handle it publicly.? Galatians 2:11-14; I Timothy 5:19-20
• Summed up:
  • Confession of sin is to be as public as the sin.
    • Known by God, confess to God.
    • Known by only one, confess to that one.
    • Known by few, confess to that few.
    • Known by many, confess publicly.

• Sobriety:? “Sound judgment expresses the meaning; it is that habitual inner self-government, with its constant reign on all the passions and desires, which would hinder the temptation to these from arising.”
• Even people of the world recognize the consequences of wearing scant attire in public.
• How short is short?
  • True, it involves judgment.
  • Some pointers:? Exodus 20:26; Exodus 28:40,42
• Would you appear in public naked?
  • The Bible calls one naked when scantily clad.? Genesis 3:7,9,10; Isaiah 47:2-3
• There are no double standards with God.
  • When the Bible speaks of lust, it addresses man.
  • When the Bible speaks of modest clothing, it addresses women.
  • It is wrong for women to lust.
  • It is wrong for men to appear in public scantily attired.

  • Ecclesiastes 2:3-11?- Don’t just rediscover the vanity of this world.
  • Ecclesiastes 12:12?- Solomon’s conclusions
  • I Timothy 4:12?- Don’t let others despise your youth.? Use your youth to serve God!
• Be pure.
