- “Church” is not a religious word.
- It is used of an unlawful “called out” mob in Acts 19:32,41.
- It is used of a lawful assembly. Acts 19:39
- It is used of God’s people in the wilderness. Acts 7:38
- It is used of God’s people of the New Covenant, which is our study for today.
- “Church” as used “of Christ”
- Aggregate of the saved.
- Matthew 16:18
- Hebrews 12:23
- Ephesians 3:14-15
- In this sense the word includes all the saved by Christ’s blood, whether physically living or dead.
- In this sense, the church has no assigned collective work, and no structure to do collective work.
- It is simply a relationship between Christ and saved people.
- All functions are independent, not collective.
- Done under one’s own oversight. Galatians 6:10; 6:1; James 1:27
- Done with one’s own resources.
- Judgment involves only self.
- Aggregate of the saved.
