  • “Church” is not a religious word.
    • It is used of an unlawful “called out” mob in Acts 19:32,41.
    • It is used of a lawful assembly.  Acts 19:39
    • It is used of God’s people in the wilderness.  Acts 7:38
    • It is used of God’s people of the New Covenant, which is our study for today.
  • “Church” as used “of Christ”
    • Aggregate of the saved.
      • Matthew 16:18
      • Hebrews 12:23
      • Ephesians 3:14-15
      • In this sense the word includes all the saved by Christ’s blood, whether physically living or dead.
      • In this sense, the church has no assigned collective work, and no structure to do collective work.
      • It is simply a relationship between Christ and saved people.
      • All functions are independent, not collective.
