God’s Providence

• Providence is the activity of God as accomplished through natural laws.
• It stands in contrast to the miraculous, by which God operates independent of natural laws.
• What’s the evidence?
  • Moses, son of Pharaoh’s daughter.
  • The salvation of the Jews in Esther.
• God provides through law.
• What about miracles?
  • Mark 16:20; Hebrews 2:3-4?- They had a special design and purpose.
  • Every blessing we receive is not a miracle.
• Is God’s providence revealed?
  • If we can’t understand how something works, does that mean it’s not true?
  • Neither Mordecai nor Esther knew what the outcome of their actions would be.
• Should we interpret life events?
  • Providence is not an avenue by which God reveals His will to us.
• God uses man in providence.
  • God will accomplish what He has purposed, but never infringe on man’s will.
  • Esther and Haman both had a choice to do good or evil.

Richard told me about this video a while back and I recently rediscovered it on Engadget.? It demonstrates a three fingered robotic hand combined with a high speed visual tracking system that is so fast you have to see it move in slow motion to understand what’s going on.? If the technical stuff at the beginning seems dry, hang on for the awesome demos at the end!

• God commanded His word to be read for the benefit of all the people.? Genesis 31:9-13; Joshua 8:34-35
• The kind was to keep and read a copy of the law.? Deuteronomy 17:14,18-20
• Restoration of Israel was brought about by reading.? II Chronicles 34:1,8,15,18,30-32; Nehemiah 8:1,4,5-6,8
• In the time of Christ and the apostles, reading was a regular part of religious service.? Luke 4:16-20; Acts 15:21
• When they were wrong about a religious question, Jesus identified their problem as a failure to read.? Matthew 12:3,5; 21:42; 22:31
• Reading was also a significant part of early worship.? Acts 2:16-17; 3:22-23; Colossians 4:16; I Thessalonians 5:17; I Timothy 4:13,16
• Reading is sadly neglected by most members today.
