  • Jeremiah 9:1-2
  • II Chronicles 35:25?- Jeremiah lamented the death of Judah’s last good king:? Josiah.
  • Jeremiah 1:13-15,6-8?- The coming destruction of Judah foretold.? God assures Jeremiah that he is up to the task.
  • Jeremiah 11:21?- People sought to kill Jeremiah for his message.
  • Jeremiah 38:2-7?- Jeremiah is left in the bottom of a well by the people he is trying to save.
  • Jeremiah 26:8?- Jeremiah is threatened with death.
  • God doesn’t want you to run away.
    • Jonah 1:1-3,3:1-3?- Jonah learned how impossible it is to run from God.? God didn’t want Jonah to run from his responsibility.
    • Exodus 4:10-13?- Moses felt inadequate to handle the task God gave him.
    • Judges 6:14-15?- Gideon felt inadequate.
  • God can bless us even in the most difficult and challenging times.
  • Sometimes our present trials are preparing us for greater blessings later on.
    • Job was blessed much more after he was tormented than before.
  • Jeremiah 10:23?- It is not in man to direct his own steps.

What Will Happen if We Teach the Truth?

  • Acts 17:32-34
  • Galatians 1:8-10
  • If we truly try to teach the truth:
    • We will prevent discouragement.
    • We will not twist the scriptures.
    • We will seek to please God rather than men.
  • Sometimes people will reject the truth.
    • Matthew 7:13-14?- Most will reject the truth.
    • Acts 17:32-34?- Some will mock.
    • Acts 7:57-58?- Stephen was stoned for preaching the truth.
    • John 12:42-43?- Many believed in Jesus, but were afraid of what other people would think of their belief.
    • Matthew 14:3-4?- John the Baptist was beheaded for teaching the truth.
    • Some try to delay obedience.
    • Acts 18:5-6?- When the Jews stopped listening, Paul just kept teaching to the Gentiles.
  • Sometimes even faithful Christians will leave the faith.
  • Sometimes people need time to think about what they’ve heard.
    • Acts 17:32?- Some of Paul’s listeners needed to hear more teaching before they were convinced.
    • Don’t give up on people that are willing to study and hear you!
  • Sometimes people will gladly receive the truth.

  • I Corinthians 4:2?- Be good stewards of God’s blessings.
  • Hard work is better than any “get-rich quick” scheme.
    • Over and over again, the Bible emphasizes the importance of diligence and industry.? Proverbd 10:2-5, 24:30-34; II Thessalonians 3:10
    • Don’t be surprised if the cupboard is bare because you have not worked.
  • You must live within your means.
    • You cannot spend more than you make – at least not for long!? (You must budget!)
    • Luke 15:11-16; John 6:10-12?- Frugality and thrift are two virtues encouraged by the Bible.
    • Remember, however, that there is a difference between frugality and stinginess.? Matthew 25:34-40? One saves so that he can provide for his own and those less fortunate than himself.

  • Biblical principles relating to money:
    • Like many material possessions, money itself is not evil.? It is the love of money which is forbidden.? I Timothy 6:10; Proverbs 16:8,11,16? Do I have the money or does the money have me?
    • One cannot love God and worldly riches at the same time.? Matthew 6:24, 19:23-34
    • The most important principle to remember when it comes to money is stewardship.? God will hold us accountable for the proper handling of our finances.? I Peter 4:10?- Consider the parable of the talents also!
    • Managing money can be a special challenge to the Christian living in America because material wealth abounds.? The accumulation of money is viewed as the sign of success.? The Bible warns of this danger.? Proverbs 11:4; Matthew 6:19-21; Luke 12:15; I Timothy 6:9
    • I Timothy 6:6-8?- At death, the rick man and the poor man both take with them the same thing – not one red cent!
    • Romans 8:38-39?- You could lose every last cent and still be a Christian.

  • I Thessalonians 5:22?- Abstain from all forms of evil.
  • Romans 13:14?- Make no provision at all for evil.
  • Ephesians 5:11?- Have no fellowship with evil.
  • Psalms 101:2-3?- “I will set nothing wicked before my eyes.”
  • Philippians 4:8?- Think on good things.
  • Proverbs 4:23?- Keep your heart with diligence.
  • Excuses
    • I hear vulgarity all the time and it doesn’t effect me.
    • Mature minds can handle mature subjects.
    • Some of those movies are really good!
      • Of course they are good!? That’s how the devil entices us.
  • What can we do?
    • Be honest about the ratings!
    • Just turn it off.
    • Beware of plop and LOP TV watching.
    • Don’t let your kids watch TV after you go to sleep.
    • Throw out bad movies.

  • Core concept:? sovereignty
    • Calvinists emphasize God’s authority and ability to do whatever He wants, regardless of man’s depravity.
    • Calvinists de-emphasize man’s part in salvation.
  • T.U.L.I.P.
    • The Five Points of Calvinism is a standard apologetic text for Calvinists.
    • Total depravity – all men are born guilty of sin.
      • Genesis 6:5?- Calvinists use this as proof text.
      • Matthew 19:14?- Counter-proof text
      • Ezekiel 18?is another major counter-proof.
    • Unconditional election – God chose people before the foundation of the world to be saved.
    • Limited atonement – Christ came to save some – those chosen already by God.
    • Irresistible grace – The Holy Spirit?cannot fail to save those who God chose to save.
    • Perseverance of the saints – Once people are saved, they are always saved.? People can still sin, but that doesn’t cause them to be lost.
