- The Bible
- Genesis 2:9; Acts 17:25; Zechariah 12:1; Ecclesiastes 11:5; Psalms 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:5
- The word brephos (baby):
- Luke 1:39-44; 2:12,16
- Luke 18:15; Acts 7:19; I Peter 2:2?- other uses
- The word huios (son):
- The word syllambano (conceive):
- Exodus 21:22-25
- Yeled – child/youth
- Yasa – go out, come out, bring out
- God’s protection of the baby still in the womb shows that an unborn child was already considered a life.
- What about abortion?
- After studying the Bible, I believe we can conclude with certainty that abortion is sin.
- Murder is wrong (Romans 1:29) because it is the unlawful taking of a life of one who was made in the image of God.
- Abortion takes the life of an unborn child who has obviously not practiced evil.? The baby is not being executed for a crime – he is being murdered.
- Is abortion wrong even in cases of rape?
- If it would be wrong to kill the child after birth, it would be wrong before birth.
- What about in vitro fertilization?
- Luke 1:36?- Once conception (or fertilization) occurs, a human life has begun.
- Because some of the fertilized eggs are purposefully discarded, this procedure is wrong.
- What about non-surgical abortions (RU-486, etc.)?
- These are wrong for the same reason surgical abortions are wrong.
- How does the law treat an unborn child?
- What about so-called “emergency contraceptive” (the morning after pill)?
- These drugs might prevent fertilization, but it may also prevent a fertilized egg from implanting itself in the womb.
