Psalm 27

By David Watson

Benchley, February 15, 2009

  • We should be careful to watch for figurative language here.
  • Psalm 27:3?- “In spite of this I shall be confident.”
  • Psalm 27:4?- “That I may dwell in the house of the Lord”
    • Even if people forsake us, God is there as long as we hold up our end of the relationship.
    • John 8:37-41; Ephesians 5:2,8?- We must walk in God’s commands and strive to dwell in His house.
    • Psalm 32:1-5?- Even great error can be forgiven so that we can dwell in the house of the Lord.
  • Psalm 27:13?- “The goodness of the Lord.”
    • We can wholly lean on the goodness of God.

  • I Timothy 1:13
  • Genesis 2:9,16-17,19-20?- Adam and Eve had the most perfect life possible on earth.
    • Life could not have been simpler for Adam and Eve.
  • Genesis 3:1-6?- Sin enters the picture.
    • It was simple things that got Adam and Eve in trouble.? Notice that Eve said they weren’t even supposed to touch the fruit, since that was a prelude to eating it.
  • Fearing God causes us to do His commandments.? II Chronicles 19:9
    • When Adam and Eve sinned, they were not fearing God.
  • Genesis 4:6-7?- God talks to Cain before he kills Abel.? It’s easy to do good when things are good, but hard when things are bad.
  • Genesis 19:26?- Lot’s wife disobeyed a simple command and was killed.
    • Uzzah made the same kind of mistake when he touched the ark (II Samuel 6:6-7).
    • Acts 5?- Ananias and Sapphira sinned in what should have been a simple transaction.
  • Philippians 4:19?- God will supply our needs.
  • Matthew 6:25-34?- We must learn to be content with what God gives us.
  • Romans 5:12-21

Andrew Jones is awesome

// February 27th, 2009 // View Comments // Mark's stuff

In browsing around the art world, I’ve stumbled across some of Andrew Jones’ work lately.? He has a very unusual way of painting – he does it live in front of an audience with a giant Wacom tablet slung around his shoulder.? Check it out:

Another demo from Andrew:

Last night I played a little of the demo for the game Crayon Physics and it is awesome.? You can download the free PC demo at the main site.? I believe there is also a version for the iPhone.

Elders

By Jesse Jenkins

Benchley, February 8, 2009

  • I Timothy 3:1?- Being an elder involves work – it is not about being in control of things.
  • Titus 1:7?- Elders are stewards of God.
  • The work of elders
  • Elders are not bosses; they are servants of the flock.
    • Their rule is not despotic, tyrannical, or arbitrary.
    • Oversight necessitates that elders make some decisions.
    • In decisions of any magnitude, elders that rule well will feel the pulse of the flock.
      • To fail to do so is to invite trouble.
      • When elders lead the flock to harmonious decisions, there will not be trouble.
  • It is not the work of elders:
    • To be a centralized board to receive money from many congregations to do a big work.
    • To build, maintain, or support human institutions for any cause.
    • To oversee any brotherhood functions.
      • Brotherhood preaching training programs
      • Brotherhood lectureships
    • When we thing about elders, let us think about the local church, not about the brotherhood.
