Walmart shutting down DRM servers

// October 10th, 2008 // View Comments // Mark's stuff

If you have any music you bought online from Walmart, you might need to burn your music to CD and then re-rip it to remove the DRM.? Apparently they are shutting down their DRM servers, so if you ever have to reinstall Windows or do something that requires you to re-license your music, you’ll be out of luck.

?Update:? Nevermind on that.? They are keeping the DRM servers up for now.

Encrypt your email

// October 10th, 2008 // View Comments // Mark's stuff

Here’s a nice little video from CNet showing how to set up email signing and encryption.? Remember, if you don’t encrypt your email, every computer the mail gets routed through on the way to its destination can read the message.? Also, if you do not cryptographically sign your email, people can easily forge email that appears to be from you.

Some crazy videos to brighten your Friday:

Insane freestyle soccer:

?

Slow motion lightning:

Synchronized motorcycle police in Rome:

Edit:? Removed a couple videos that, on second review, were not completely wholesome.? Sorry about that!

Inventions and daredevils from the 1930s

// October 2nd, 2008 // View Comments // Mark's stuff

From bestofyoutube.com, here’s a little montage of videos of people doing and inventing crazy stuff in the 1930s.? I guess it just goes to show you that people have ALWAYS been crazy.? They had the right idea with a lot of the flying machines, just a lack of technology to execute them.? (You need way more than human power!)

V-22 Osprey has a sweet new gun

// October 2nd, 2008 // View Comments // Mark's stuff

DefenseTech.org has a nice little article explaining how the new defensive gun on the V-22 Osprey works.? The operator inside the aircraft sees through the sights using a TV monitor, puts the crosshairs on the target and fires.? A computer system figures out where to actually point the gun to account for movement of the aircraft so the rounds land in the right place.
