Here are a couple of cool little robots I found. The first rides a unicycle:
The second one, named Salvador Dabot, draws portraits for you:
Come on now, who doesn’t need a little unicycle-riding robot rolling around the living room?

Here’s some video of Bill Dan doing some amazing balanced rock art. Apparently a good number of people have seen him do this in person and he doesn’t use any tricks - he is just incredibly good at balancing stuff.

Fox News has a very interesting article up about a new scanner system the Department of Homeland Security is testing. The scanner analyzes non-verbal cues from your body that show you might be up to no good. This sounds way over the top to me. Do you think this is a good idea? This reminds me of the famous quote from Benjamin Franklin: “Any society that would give up a little liberty to gain a little security will deserve neither and lose both.”

In case you are not up to speed on all the financial problems caused by bad mortgages, this article gives a good explanation of some of the stuff Washington Mutual was doing that caused the problems. The fraudsters they gave loans to certainly are at fault as well, but there’s just no excuse to repeatedly give loans to people like this. Crazy. You always hate to see any company go under, but at some level, WaMu had to know this was a bad idea.
Here’s a cool little slideshow showing some of the new equipment NASA is working on for returning to the moon.
I heard about this game from a podcast and it looks pretty interesting. The idea is that you are trying to steal pies hidden in a 2D world, but you have to bend time to do so. You record yourself running and jumping around, then play back the recording and work together with your former self (or selves) to complete the level. It’s a little mind bending! Oh, and the whole thing looks like a black and white movie from the 20s. The website is here.
Now this is just bizarre. A city in Israel is running a trial program where they take DNA samples of people’s dogs and then match that against poop found on the street and in trash cans. They reward people who pick up after their dogs and punish those who don’t. They are serious about this over there! The bummer about the whole thing is the guy that gets to analyze all the “samples”. Blech.
