Marines get a new workout program

// August 21st, 2008 // View Comments // Mark's stuff

I didn’t know this was possibly, but apparently the Marines are getting a little too fat and lazy, so they changing to a new, tougher physical fitness test.? It sounds like quite a workout.? Maybe this should be an event for Survivor: Benchley 2009.? If you complete it in time, you get a trophy and celebratory deployment to Iraq.

By John Lasater
Benchley, August 8, 2008

  • Romans 6:1-23 – we must put away the old sinful man and fill our lives with the good works God demands of us.
  • II Samuel 23:14-17 – the attitude of the three mighty men is the same attitude we should have towards serving God.
  • John 7:17 – we must will to know and do the will of God.
  • Colossians 4:2-4 – Paul asked for prayers for opportunities to spread the Word.
    • What do we do when these opportunities come?

Faith
By John Lasater
Benchley, August 7, 2008

  • Romans 10:17; II Corinthians 5:7; II Corinthians 4:14 – We must understand the difference between opinion, knowledge, and faith.
  • Hebrews 11:8ff – The faith of Abraham
    • God asked him to leave his comfortable surroundings and move. Abraham did so without even knowing where to go.
    • God gave him the three promises that he never got to see, yet he believed that they would be fulfilled.
  • Hebrews 6:6-10 – Some get weary waiting for God’s promises. Don’t let your faith dwindle but have patience to the end.
  • Genesis 22:1ff – God asked Abraham to offer his son.
    • We may not be asked to do this but will be faced with trials in our life. We’ll know what God expects but it will be hard and take a lot of intelligent (Hebrews 11:17-19), moral, and emotional strength.
    • You have to be willing to do whatever God asks you to do or believe.
  • Hebrews 11:13-16 – Abraham was a spiritually minded man.

It’s hard to believe these people are still out there…

FoxNews has an interesting little story about the Flat Earth Society, which is a group of people who still believe the earth is flat.? They think it’s just a huge disc.? I guess none of them have ever taken the time to get to a high enough elevation where you can actually see the curve of the earth.? Bizarre.? I wonder how they think they are getting their DirecTv?

Olympic BSOD

Anybody catch this on the DVR?? Apparently one of the computers used for projection during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics crashed, which put a Blue Screen of Death up for a second or two.? Ouch.? Another good reason to use Linux for mission critical applications.? Gizmodo has the full story.
