- God makes three promised to Abraham:
- Nation (fulfilled in Old Testament)
- Land (fulfilled in Old Testament)
- Universal blessing (fulfilled in New Testament)
- The kingdom of Israel divides after the death of Solomon. Israel goes into idolatry and is taken into captivity about 721 B.C. Judah goes into captivity at about 586 B.C. A remnant of the people returns to rebuild the temple (Ezra and Nehemiah).
- From this we see that it is important to follow God’s law!
- God shows us the need that mankind had for a system of salvation. The stage is set for that third promise.
- The story of the New Testament
- Matthew 1:1 - the story of Jesus the Messiah
